A new traffic enforcement camera has recently been installed near the corner of Old Hill and A222 (opposite the Cricket Ground) to monitor the yellow box junction at that location.

At present, the camera is not yet active, and we have been advised that there will be no enforcement until the appropriate warning signage has been installed. We understand this is intended to ensure motorists are given clear notice before any enforcement begins.

These cameras are rotated around the borough over time as compliance improves at individual locations. They can be used to enforce a variety of traffic restrictions, including school zigzags, yellow box junctions, bus stops, banned turns and other moving traffic offences. The aim is to improve road safety and traffic flow in areas where persistent issues have been identified.

We have also raised residents’ concerns with the Council regarding the yellow box junction at the War Memorial junction. A significant number of residents, and we share these concerns ourselves, feel that the current layout changes may have made traffic congestion and vehicle movements at the junction worse rather than better, particularly during busier periods.

The council have indicated that there are ongoing questions about how effective the yellow box junction at the War Memorial has been and whether it is currently delivering the intended improvements to traffic flow. We have requested they continue to monitor and review the situation.

We will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
