As you are aware, new crossings are to be built close to the War Memorial junction to improve pedestrian safety at this very busy intersection.

Having campaigned hard for improvements here, we are now pleased to advise that plans are now well advanced for the build of the first crossing at Royal Parade next month.  Nearby residents and businesses should be notified by Riney separately but we just wanted to give everyone the heads up on timings.

The Council is  looking to close Royal Parade for one week from 18th August.  This  will allow Riney to install the new ducting and kerbing ahead of the new traffic signals being installed the first week of September. TFL’s signal works will mainly be carried out within the footway and should take around a week to complete. All being well the new Royal Parade crossing should be operational the week of 8th September.

Closure and diversion signage will be placed onsite a week before the works and we have asked that the properties (including the shops) on Royal Parade are supplied with information on the scheme and arrangements for waste collections etc during the closure.

The traffic management proposal for the project is below.

The Council will look to temporarily remove the width restriction on Watts Lane as well as put some no parking cones along some sections of Watts Lane and Bull Lane during the closure.

A new pedestrian refuge is also to be constructed on Centre Common Road, hopefully over the same two week period – we will confirm this as soon as we can.

There will be a small closure on Kemnal Road from 26th August for a couple of days while new kerb lines and tactile paving is introduced.

The other signals works on Bromley Lane haven’t been finalised yet but we will update you as soon as we can on this.
